Top 3 Ways To Improve Your Life

by Jessica NieminskiStressed-out-mom

As parents it is too easy to forget about ourselves.  We are often juggling more things than we have hands and needing more hours than we have time.   Okay so maybe that pretty much describes everyone, including myself.  By the way it is painfully obvious to me because I am writing this blog when I could be watching shows on DVR, or even better sleeping!  Alright busted, I would rather be writing this blog since I feel the need to awkwardly and publicly share my life with everyone.  Tangent aside, after facing many health issues of my own and trying to navigate the many interventions needed for my children, I got lost somewhere along the way.  This past year as I regained my health it became very clear to me that while there may be a lot on my plate, I need to first save a section on it for me.  Here are the top three things you should do for yourself in 2015 and always.  Why?  Odds are that if you don’t feel your best, you won’t be the best parent, spouse, co worker, boss, friend, or anything that you can be.

1.  Get Your Nutrition On Track

I used to feel like a certain level of health or fitness wasn’t obtainable for me because I just loved certain foods, but I was wrong.  The healthier you eat the better you will feel, so start today.  You don’t have to do some major life overhaul and throw out everything in your house either.  Take it one step at a time, finish the things you have, and don’t buy more of the things you don’t need.  By the way, this will save you big bucks too so it is clearly a win win.  Take things out of your daily food intake one at a time and little by little.  Introduce new foods the same way, or else you are going to get overwhelmed and quit altogether.  If you do this all little by little you will be surprised what a big step you have made overall.  One good choice leads to another and that is an understatement when talking about food.

2.  Get Moving

This one can be hard, especially if you are living in the midwest where it is going to be -30 degrees tomorrow and just the look of snow makes you want to hide indoors.  Good news!  You don’t have to even leave your house to get in shape.  There are many amazing at home videos that are just as, if not more effective than the trip to the gym you were going to take when you ended up at the smoothie bar after 20 minutes of elliptical at a mediocre pace.  If a video isn’t in the budget there are tons of things you can do to get started on you tube alone.  Just a plank a day can keep the belly away!  I swear!  For the record you do not have to work out for long blocks of time to get results either.  I know you may think you are too busy, but if I can fit it a 20 minute workout most days, then so can you.  After all, don’t you matter enough?  Yes, of course you do!  So do it for you, do it for your kids, and do it for everyone on this planet that has to come into contact with your grouchy self that may or may not have been complaining about this very thing for months or years on end.  Too tired…I think not!  Working out actually increases your overall energy.  I don’t care if you start with 5 sit ups a day and that is it, just start there and build on it!

3.  Take Weird Photos

What is it that you are passionate about?  What would you do for a living if you could?  Find some time for that activity.  I don’t care whether you like to photograph bugs, read books, or knit hamster sweaters, find a tiny amount of time every week for it.  It doesn’t have to be record breaking periods of time so that you can knit 10 sweaters,a hat, and scarf.  Just little increments that make you smile is all you need.  After all even Alvin and the Chipmunks don’t have that many outfits, and they were on tour!  Jokes aside, if you are doing things that you love, everyone around you is going to notice because it is going to fill you heart with joy and then people around you might not find you so grouchy anymore.  Alright, you are never grouchy! Sorry. Grouch or no grouch, this year take small bits of time to do these three things.  I promise it will lead you to better health, happiness, and of course to a better overall person.  Put these things on the calendar (literally) and treat them like you would any other appointment, because you matter, and it is time to love yourself!

With that said this is a topic that is extremely important to me and if anyone has any personal questions about ways to get started with health or nutrition email me at my personal email account: jessicascurto@gmail.com If you are looking for help knitting hamster sweaters my skills are not so strong, but I would still be happy to talk to you about how to make time for your own passions.

I have found nutrition to be a key factor in my life. If mama bear is not eating right THE ENTIRE FAMILY SUFFERS. Mama’s, eat your food! Keep it healthy, and stop eating the kids leftovers.
